At the heart of Savera Medical & Psychology is Dr. Avi Aulakh’s vision: accessible, culturally responsive, and high-quality mental health care. As a double-fellowship-trained psychiatrist, he brings both advanced clinical expertise and a clear, person-centred approach to care.
Background and Training:
Dr. Aulakh completed his MD internationally, followed by psychiatry residency at the University of Alberta and fellowship training in Forensic Psychiatry. His training supports work with complex, high-acuity, and diagnostically nuanced presentations.
Addiction and Complex Care:
A recognized leader in addiction medicine, Dr. Aulakh has served as Section Chief of Addictions with Alberta Health Services (North Zone). His work focuses on evidence-based treatment, reducing stigma, and supporting individuals in building sustainable recovery.
Culturally Responsive Care:
Dr. Aulakh offers consultations in English, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, and Russian. His approach prioritizes understanding each individual within their cultural and personal context, supporting clearer communication and more effective care.
Community and Teaching:
In addition to clinical work, Dr. Aulakh is involved in medical education at the University of Alberta and contributes to community mental health initiatives across Alberta.
